Alexander Technique Applied to Pregnancy & Childbirth
Many mothers say that childbirth is one of the most amazing experiences of a woman's life. Chie wants to help other women to experience natural childbirth in this way, with as little stress and pain as possible. With Alexander work the mother can learn how to use gravity to help along the natural childbirth process. In addition, learning to apply the Alexander principles can help the mother respond well to the psycho-physical changes that pregnancy, childbirth and post-natal recovery bring.

Having previously enjoyed working with pregnant mothers in the context of Alexander lessons, in 2007 Chie completed a Doula training course run by the Alexander Technique teacher and antenatal educator Ilana Machover, author of The Alexander Technique Birth Book.

‘Doula’ is a Greek word whose original meaning is servant-woman but is used in English to mean woman who assists another woman during labour and provides support to her, the infant, and the family after childbirth.

By helping the mother find a greater sense of ease in a wide range of positions and movements, a Doula who is also an experienced Alexander teacher can transform the experience of pregnancy and childbirth -- for example, giving the mother constructive guidance on how to respond to the pain of contractions -- with countless benefits to the mother's health and the baby's future development.
