The Moro Reflex
The Moro or 'baby panic' reflex, if retained in immature form, is constantly liable to trip the fight or flight mechanism, causing reddening of the skin as the blood rushes to sense organs and muscles. Developmentally, the Moro reflex opposes an even more primitive fear paralysis response. For this reason, a child or adult who is held in the grip of an unresolved conflict between panic and fear paralysis may exhibit, by turns, redness and pallor.
